Taylor Swift, full Taylor Alison Swift. American singer/songwriter who's achieved huge fame with the stories she tells of her young heartbreak. Swift began to show an interest in the music industry from a very young age. Her career progressed rapidly from children's play roles to her first public appearance in crowds of people. Swift was just 11 when she sang The Star-Spangled Banner at a Philadelphia 76ers basketball match. In the following year Swift began to write songs and picked up the guitar. Swift got inspiration from musicians from the country genre, such as Shania Twain, the Dixie Chicks and now the Chicks to create original material which reflected the alienation she experienced at the age of 13. Swift's parents relocated her to Tennessee at 13 when they decided to sell their Pennsylvania farm. The move enabled Swift to spend more time courting labels for the country genre in Nashville.
